Plan the lines, not just the color.
James Hardie fiber cement offers several ways to shape an exterior. Lap siding creates horizontal lines, panels and battens emphasize height, and shingle-style siding can add texture to a gable or entry. Consider how the board exposure, trim width, and transitions work together. A full-wall view helps make these choices more meaningful than a small color sample alone.
The installation scope should be as specific as the design. Discuss the product and finish, the wall condition, flashing at openings, required clearances, and how joints and penetrations will be detailed. Where removal reveals an unexpected condition, the next step should be documented before additional work is approved. We can discuss sourcing through ABC Supply and the product-specific care information to keep with your project records.
BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Good questions.
Clear answers.
Is James Hardie the same material as vinyl siding?
No. James Hardie siding is fiber cement, while vinyl and polymer products use different materials and installation details. Compare the complete proposed assemblies, appearance, finish care, and installed cost—not only the price of a panel.
Can I combine lap siding with board-and-batten details?
These looks can be considered together using appropriate products and trim. Plan the proportions on each elevation and define the transitions around corners, windows, and rooflines. Your written proposal should identify the products that create the design you choose.
What should I ask about the finish and maintenance?
Ask which finish is included, what routine care the selected product requires, and how future touch-ups or refinishing should be handled. Review the current written product and finish warranties for that selection; do not assume every product carries identical terms.
